A Corner of my Home.

Having spent the last couple of weeks enjoying everyone else’s Corners of my Home posts*, I thought I would jump in and add my own.

This is the cupboard next to our tiny kitchen. It houses the washing machine (which is out of shot), and all our crockery and glassware.

I love how it always manages to stay orderly, probably because everything has a home.  The majority of the crockery is by Meakin.  i originally started with half my parents’ wedding set (which was always kept in the big oak sideboard and only used when guests came round, or for special occasions.) I really loved the design, so when we started seeing it around, in second hand and retro shops, I started buying it up. I think the most I paid was £30 for 6 dinner plates. The rest were more ‘everything in the box for £5’ kind of deals. 🙂

Other than that there is some Muji (the big pale blue bowls) and Habitat (the white bowls on the top shelf), which work well all together.  The fact the wood trim compliments the colours is a happy coincidence, which I love.

Mini Slippers

My godmother, (who is a wonderful woman) has just become a grandmother for the first time, and even though i haven’t seen her eldest for years, i had to knit something. (You know how it is.)

So I took some green merino (left over from the sailboat jumper i made), and knitted the baby slippers from Adorable Knits for Tiny Tots by Zoe Mellor, while travelling back and forth to london, and watching a Top Gear marathon on uktvG2. 🙂

I made the 6-12 months – they should be the right size just as summer really takes off.

Tomorrow i’m meeting up with my good friend J, and heading into london again, to go have a nosy around Loop and The Handweavers Studio. (J went there last week, since we realised it was in her neck of the woods, and i got a hilarious ‘OMGOMGOMG!!!’ answerphone message.) i intend to be restrained in my purchasing, but it is my birthday later this month, and anyone who asked is being told I would like YARN! so i’m hoping i can come back soon and buy stuff then.

FO: Adapted Picovoli Jumper

Yarn: Jo Sharp Silkroad DK tweed (Paper Rose and Magnolia) – does Jo Sharp exist any more? 🙁
Pattern:Picovoli by Grumperina
Notes: I extended the sleeves so that they were 3/4 instead of cap. I did this by decreasing 2 stitches on every 12th row until there were 42 stitches left. Then i finished the sleeves with a picot edging to match the other edges.

I’m pretty happy with this jumper. The colour and feel of the yarn is great, and the fit works well. It’s maybe a little short, but then i’m likely to layer it with a vest underneath, and i’m still in the process of working out what is a good length of jumper for me. (After years of wearing too long jumpers in high school, and looking like a sack of spuds. – ah how i miss the early 90’s so…)
